Governance

The Sphere Project is governed by a Board that determines its policies and strategy. The Board is made up of 18 members representing networks of humanitarian agencies, both national and global.

Board organizations work together on a voluntary and informal basis. Under the Board's direction, a small office in Geneva works to implement its strategic priorities and work plans.

Board member organizations contribute a significant portion of the Sphere Project office's funding.

Sphere Association

On 28 September 2016, the Sphere Association was constituted in Geneva as a non-profit association under Swiss law.

The new legal entity is the successor of the Sphere Project, established in 1997 as a time-bound multi-organisation initiative to establish minimum standards for humanitarian assistance in crises.

The Statutes of the new organisation were approved by the Constitutive Assembly.
