I worked two years in the tsunami reconstruction programme, mainly in the north of Sri Lanka and short term in Aceh.
During the implementation in Sri Lanka, I spend some time on developing firewood efficient or Improved Cooking Stoves (ICS). Most local aid or religious organisations did not find this a high priority, but the people were all struggeling to obtain firewood, a problem that will increase when scrapwood from the disaster has been consumed.
I found that attention to this issue is undervalued in the Sphere report or recommendations, whereas good solutions are not readily available. |
