Hosted by Trócaire, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the course offers to build the capacity of professionals in the region (Southern Africa) in disaster preparedness, response planning, and coordination. The region is home to both natural and human induced disasters and emergencies, yet the humanitarian community in the region more often than not are caught unprepared for such eventualities.

The ToT will build upon a series of 3-day Sphere trainings that have been facilitated by UNOCHA, Trócaire and other players in the region. The course will draw participants from a diverse background of disaster management practitioners, and field-based program officers. The ultimate aim is to come up with a vibrant regional team of trainers that will see the institutionalization of Sphere in the region. Trainers will be drawn from a list of ToT facilitators. NB. Organizations are encouraged to nominate and support staff for the training.
