How is dignity realised? - 2006/04/13 21:47 If the Humanitarian Charter says that everyone has a right to life with dignity, what does the humanitarian organisation do to ensure this?

I think it is not about providing a level of resources or services that are beyond survival levels. I think it is about something else - perhaps allowing the person to define the services they receive. Dignity is a very personal concept.

Perhaps, as Nick Stockton at HAP-I argues, dignity is realised when the agency is accountable to the beneficiary.

Thus, accountability becomes an essential humanitarian principle. But, that is another discussion ...
