Does anyone use the Code of Conduct? - 2006/04/13 21:54
So, many of us quote the Code of Conduct as the expression of the commonly understood values in the humanitarian sector. Well, ok, there are a few rather strident opponents, but more or less, when it comes to humanitarian values many people think of the Code of Conduct and the Humanitarian Charter.
Yet, it would appear that the Code is not applied by as many aid workers as we would like to believe.
So what are the common values that the diverse and pluralistic humanitarian community share? Can we describe how an 'aid agency' is different from a military provider of humanitarian assistance or a commercial firm implementing a sub-contract? Does it matter?
