Sphere activities in Burundi

1) MEMBERS
The Council currently has ten members:
1. The (Anglican) Episcopal Church of Burundi, represented by five autonomous dioceses: a. the Gitega Diocese b. the Buye Diocese c. the Bujumbura Diocese d. the Matana Diocese e. the Makamba Diocese
6. The Union of Baptist Churches of Burundi 7. The Evangelical Friends (Quakers) Church 8. the Free Methodist Church 9. the United Methodist Church 10.the Kimbanguist Church 2) CNEB’s vision

3) USE OF THE SPHERE HANDBOOK: We do not use the Sphere handbook “by the book,” but try to use it as a useful and practical guide for humanitarian players implementing the Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards on a longer-term basis. 4) LESSONS LEARNED:
a. In many cases, the ideas on future ways to implement Sphere are already at their early stages and are developing such that the details are already taking shape on the field. Implementation of Sphere is an ongoing process and the lessons learned will continue to be shared for years to come. b. Sphere has helped reinforce the idea that persons affected by conflict have rights.
5) SPHERE-RELATED ACTIVITIES:
a. Training seminars b. Construction of houses c. Distribution of non-food and food items to vulnerable populations d. Evaluation
6) Key Messages : a. As a humanitarian system, we must successfully implement Sphere b. The Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards are a practical tool for the humanitarian community to ensure that cooperation among NGOs is more effective and responsible c. Sphere provides a model set of minimum standards for humanitarian action to be implemented in emergency situations d. Code of conduct strictly followed.
