A five days workshop was hosted by the Tunisian Red Crescent and organized by Tunis Regional IFRC office in collaboration with the Red Crescent and Red Cross Arab Organizations. 34 participants were present representing 6 countries: Egypt, Libya, Tunis, Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania. The participants were mainly from the Red Crescent National Societies (NS) with also participation form Ministry of Health and Civil Defense.   The main objectives of this workshop was to evaluate the outcomes and the impacts of the several training courses that was organized at the regional and national levels in the last five years and to plan for integration of the Sphere minimum standards in the NS programs.

• Review of Sphere and Disaster Preparedness.
• What are the mechanisms to implement Sphere minimum standards in NS’ disaster preparedness programs.
• Develop a database of human resources in Sphere and suggest practical steps to benefit from these resources.
• Identification the NS partners.
• Discussing internal and external cooperation and coordination of the NS in disaster management, suggesting mechanisms to support it.
• Suggesting advocacy and raising awareness activities of sphere minimum standards.
• Assess the existing tools in implementation of sphere and, If needed, developing tools for simplification in practical implementation of sphere minimum standards in disaster.
• Review of Sphere and project cycle.
• National society needs assessment and prioritizing of these needs.
• Develop practical applicable plan of action for each NS for integration sphere minimum standards in NS programs in disaster management and in health.
• Develop monitoring and evaluation indicators.
• Identification of most effective ways to support North Africa NS in implementing Sphere minimum standards and the practical mechanisms for each national society.
• Agreement on standard operation procedures at sub regional levels to follow up the application of the agreed mechanisms.
