The Sphere Training Materials consist of four modules and a Trainers' Guide.

Trainers' guide: designed to assist trainers in organising a successful Sphere training event using the Training Materials.

Module 1: introduces the Sphere handbook as a practical tool in humanitarian work;

Module 2: covers the Humanitarian Charter in some detail and examines sections of the international legal framework that are relevant to it;

Module 3: explores the use of the Sphere handbook through each stage of the project cycle;

Module 4: examines the conceptual framework around disaster preparedness and how it relates to the Sphere handbook. The Trainers' Guide is designed to assist trainers organize a successful training event using the modules.

In addition to the regular training workshops, you can also run a "Learning Activity" to learn and share experiences and knowledge about using the Sphere handbook in our day to day humanitarian practice.

This document is a collation of the experiences of the team who led the Sphere Training of Trainers programme and offers the reader a theoretical framework for running similar programmes. It includes a range of practical tips for training and facilitating, as well as tips on how adults learn, on creating a conducive learning environment and on utilising appropriate workshop processes.

These guidelines provide trainers with ideas to conduct an introductory workshop about the Sphere Project, its goals and handbook. The materials have been developed by Paula Thomson and jointly owned by the author and RedR UK.

These materials support a concise and cohesive 5 - day workshop that will guide participants through the entire Sphere handbook (2004 Edition). It provides insights into many of the typical problems found in the sectors of Water, Sanitation, Food Aid, Nutrition, Food Security, Settlement, Shelter and Health. It also illustrates each of the key standards associate with these topics and graphically illustrates many of the indicators associated with each. Developed by InterWorks.

This is a short technical training course in the Sphere Minimum Standards and Key Indicators for health and nutrition. Practicing health and nutrition specialists have written this course, which is designed to build technical capacity in mid-level technical specialists.

The "Sphere Review" Process is about running a 3-4 days participatory workshop where a review team of up to 25 participants from the organisation and other (agency, partner, local authority or donor) staff reflect on the project using Sphere as a tool and consult with project participants to find out whether the project is in compliance with Sphere.  The review team make recommendations to improve the quality and accountability of the project.
