Sphere incorporated in Spain’s Humanitarian Action Strategy Plan |

The Spanish Government has incorporated Sphere in its recently developed Humanitarian Action Strategy for Spanish Development Cooperation. The inclusion of Sphere standards in the planning and project cycle systems constitutes a priority action within specific objective 1 of the Strategy to improve the capacity and efficiency of Spanish Cooperation’s humanitarian response.
The Spanish Cooperation and Development Agency (AECID) has expressed its commitment to increasing the quantity and quality of the humanitarian response through the promotion of the use of Sphere standards and indicators by Spanish humanitarian actors in emergency response, particularly in the sectors of health services, shelter, and water and sanitation. It needs to be acknowledged the key role that the Institute of Studies on Conflicts and Humanitarian Action (IECAH) in Spain has played in the development of this strategy, and particularly its advocacy role to include Sphere.
