 Handbook Revision 2010

The Handbook Revision Process: public review

The revision process of the Sphere Project Handbook is progressing. From January to mid-March, the Humanitarian Charter and the four sectoral chapters(Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion; Food Security and Nutrition;Shelter, Settlement and Non-Food Items; Health Action) were posted on the Sphere Project’s website for public review. The chapter on the Standards Common to All Sectors and the Protection text have undergone substantive changes and realignments based on the feedback received from the extensive consultative process.

The draft of the Standards Common to All Sectors and the draft of the Protection text are now available on the Sphere Project website for public review.

Due to a number of factors, including the emergency response in Haiti as well as the introduction of new section on Protection, the production schedule of the 2010 edition of the Handbook has been extended. The new Handbook will be launched in the first quarter next year.

News from Sphere and HAP deployment in Haiti

Sphere trainers identified but capacities still needed!!

The activities of Sphere and HAP to improve quality and accountability of the humanitarian response in Haiti are managed by DRSS (Disaster Response Support Services), an initiative of Bioforce and RedR .

We have the pleasure to inform that Ana Urgoiti and Rosario Iraola joined the Sphere deployment in Haiti in June.

Ana Urgoiti undertook a one-month mission from 9th June 2010. Her time was divided between Sphere and DRSS.

The Sphere component of her tasks were two-fold:
1/ To run Sphere training sessions from 10th June.
2/ To set up Sphere capacity development for the Department of Civil Protection (DCO)

Rosario Iraola, is in Haiti as a Sphere trainer/advisor for the DRSS program since 16th June, for 4 months.

Bioforce and RedR are looking for additional Sphere trainers to replace Ana Urgoiti at the DCO. Individuals interested in working in Haiti (even for a few weeks/months) and who have experience in training on Sphere, are invited to contact Bioforce:
