Founded over 75 years ago, Plan is one of the oldest and largest children’s development organisations in the world. It works in 69 countries around the globe, including 50 developing countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas to promote child rights and lift children out of poverty. In 2013, Plan worked with 78 million children in more than 90,000 communities.
Launched on December 2013, the brand-new Plan Disaster Risk Management Training and Learning Sandbox offers the Sphere e-learning course to the organisation’s 8,200 staff worldwide, of whom nearly 90 per cent are in the field. The course is available in four languages: Arabic, English, French and Spanish.
The idea of a “sandbox” is a metaphor for Plan’s approach to teaching and learning. It offers a virtual space where people can meet, play, experiment, communicate, share, learn and build a community of passionate learners and professionals.
The Sphere e-learning course aims to increase the understanding and effective use of the Sphere Handbook, Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response. An ambitious training program on Sphere principles and standards, the course allows humanitarian workers to learn at their own pace in an autonomous manner.
