Child Protection Working Group

The Child Protection Working Group (CPWG) is a global network of NGOs, UN agencies, academics and other partners working to ensure more predictable, accountable and effective child protection responses in emergencies. The Group is led by the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF).

The CPWG considers that child protection in emergencies requires the prevention of and response to abuse, neglect, exploitation of and violence against children in these situations. Such work includes specific programmes run by child protection specialists as well as actions integrated into all other humanitarian sectors. The Geneva-based CPWG coordinator and a Rapid Response Team provide support to field-level child protection coordination groups.

In May 2013, the Sphere Project Board accepted the CPWG's Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action as a companion to the Sphere Handbook Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response.
